DFA is both a production team made of James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy and a record label run by Murphy, Goldsworth, and Jon Galkin. They work out of Murphy's Plantain Recording House in New York's West Village. They have gone beyond the concept of "cross-over"; their music appeals to both rock fans and dance fans equally.

The DFA label is home to artists including LCD Soundsystem (Murphy's solo project), The Juan MacLean, Black Dice, Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom, Hot Chip, Shit Robot, Shocking Pinks, Prinzhorn Dance School, Herclues & Love Affair, Still Going, Holy Ghost!, Syclops, Pylon, and The Rapture.

The DFA also works or has worked with Liquid Liquid, Black Leotard Front (Delia, Gavin, Murphy and others), J.O.Y., and Pixeltan.

The DFA have done many excellent remixes, including tracks for Le Tigre, Radio 4, Junior Senior, Fischerspooner, Metro Area, Chromeo, Nine Inch Nails, Blues Explosion, the Chemical Brothers, Soulwax, Goldfrapp, Gorillaz, Tiga, M.I.A., Justin Timberlake, their own artists, and more. DFA members have put together various mix CDs and DJ at parties in NYC and around the world.

Through their Death From Abroad imprint, DFA has also re-released 12"s that were previously unavailable in North America, from artists including Mock & Toof, Altz, Bot'Ox, and Gucci Soundsystem.

Tim Goldsworthy also does solo remix work under the name The Loving Hand, for artists including .
